One dead, 18 injured in Ebonyi auto crash

A unidentified woman was, weekend, feared dead while at least 18
other passengers sustained injuries following an auto crash involving
a commuter bus near Akpoha bridge along Abakaliki-Afikpo expressway.
When Vanguard visited the scene of the accident, it was gathered that
the vehicle which was on high speed somersaulted three times before it
crashed into a nearby bush. This led to the death of the woman.
According to reports, her corpse and the 18 injured passengers were
rushed to a nearby hospital.
The accident attracted sympathizers who made efforts to bring out the
accident victims from the bus wreckage as well as provide alternative
transportation for them.
It was also learnt that the vehicle which took off at the popular
Hosanna park along Afikpo road, Abakaliki was bound for Arochukwu in
Abia State before the crash.
One of the victims, Miss Okoronkwo Nnenaya Rita who spoke to Vanguard
expressed shock at the incident, saying apart from the over speeding
by the driver, the accident occurred when one of the tyres of the
vehicle blew out.
She said: "We were going to Arochukwu in Abia State from Abakaliki
when the accident occurred; the driver was on high speed when the tyre
blew out; the vehicle then somersaulted."
