71-year-old man arrested for allegedly raping seven-year-old in Akure

A 71-year-old hunter, Kayode Ganiyu, has been arrested for allegedly
raping a seven-year-old pupil of St Paul Annex Primary School, Oba
Ile, Akure, Ondo State.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps,
NSCDC, Ondo State Command, Kayode Balogun, who confirmed the incident,
said it happened at Ayetoru Street in Oba Ile, a suburb of Akure.
"The man is presently in our custody and will be taken to court," Mr.
Balogun said.
It was gathered that the little girl was returning from school when
she was lured by Mr. Ganiyu to his residence under the guise of him
offering her N10 for sachet water.
Narrating her ordeal in the hands of the suspect, the child said she
was returning from her school and stopped at a nearby well opposite
his house to fetch water to drink but ended up not getting the water
as it appeared unhygienic.
She alleged that "Alhaji," as the suspect is known on the street,
offered her money to buy water, before forcing her to his bed, covered
her mouth and repeatedly raped her.
''I was crying from the pain when he was penetrating me but he
wouldn't listen," she narrated.
She said Mr. Ganiyu cleaned her bleeding vagina with a rag and
threatened her with a local gun if she told anyone.
Confirming the ugly incident, the mother of the victim said she was in
her house when a neighbor hurried to report the case to her.
"Some people were shouting my name and said I should come and see what
has happened to my daughter," the mother said. "My daughter was
weeping that one Alhaji called her and carried her inside his house."
The victim's mother revealed that she took her daughter to the
hospital where the doctor informed her that her daughter was truly
raped.
However, Mr. Ganiyu denied the allegation.
"They are lying. I didn't rape her," he said.
He recounted that the girl only approached him to buy her biscuit,
which he did by giving her money.
"She complained that she was hungry and I gave her money to buy biscuit."
The suspect, who had lived on that street for close to 10 years, was,
however, accused of being a serial rapist.
An elderly neighbour claimed that the suspect used occultic powers in
raping little girls to appease his gods and ensure himself a long
life.
