Police arraign, remand eight for conspiracy, theft

An Enugu Magistrate's Court on Monday remanded seven men for allegedly
robbing some residents of the state of their property and money.
The Police Prosecutor, CPL Emmanuel Ajogwu said the matter was
reported to the Central Police Station on November 13.
Ajogwu listed the suspects as Emeka Ani, 22; Chukwuebuka Okoye, 20;
Obinna Okeh and Isaac Ibeka, 32.
Others remanded are Chima Nwafor, 19; Chinedu Mba, 19; Chukwudi Nwoba,
22, also known as Nwa black and Oge Nweze, 45.
He said the complainants -Nnamani Ozoemelam, Frank Data and Chinedu
Oti- were allegedly robbed along Railway Crossing at Ogbete Main
Market in Enugu.
He told the court that the accused persons robbed the complainants of
their property and cash of N62,000.
The prosecutor said Ozoemelam was robbed of his Nokia handset worth
N8,000 and cash of N7,000 while Data was robbed of his laptop and cash
of N50,000.
Ajogwu added that Oti was also robbed of his Nokia handset worth N12,
500 and cash of N5,000.
He told the court that one of the accused Oge Nwaeze was responsible
for receiving and keeping the stolen items for the gang.
The prosecutor said the accused men were found with machetes, knives
and guns allegedly used in terrorising unsuspecting persons along the
railway crossing.
Ajogwu told the court that the offences were punishable under Sections
5 and 1 (2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act RII
Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The prosecutor mentioned four witnesses to testify in the matter.
The Magistrate, Mrs Ifeoma Oruruo, transferred the matter to the state
High Court, saying that the court had no jurisdiction over the matter.
