NDLEA seizes over N60 million worth of illicit drugs in Kano

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, in Kano said it
impounded 789.52 kg of illicit drugs worth over N60 million in the
last two months.
The NDLEA Commander in the state, Garba Ahmadu, made this known when
he briefed journalists on the activities of the agency in Kano on
Friday.
He said the seizures were made during various raids carried out by the
agency in Kano metropolis within the period under review.
Mr. Ahmadu said no fewer than 183 suspects were arrested in possession
of various illicit drugs like cocaine, cannabis sativa and cough
syrups, usually used by addict in the state.
He said the agency on Thursday intercepted 132 kg of Indian hemp at a
check point on Zaria Road.
The agency, the commander said, also impounded 20 cartons of Benylin
cough syrup, weighing about 476 kg.
He said 45 suspects were prosecuted , 35 others transferred to Dawanau
Psychiatric Hospital while 55 suspects were transferred to Kiru
Reformatory Centre for comprehensive counselling and rehabilitation.
Mr. Ahmadu, who is also the chairman of the state task force on drugs,
said he had already forwarded an interim report to the state
government for necessary action.
