160 runners in Obudu for 2013 mountain race

No fewer than 160 mountain runners were on Friday at the Obudu
Mountain Resort to participate in the 9th Obudu Mountain Raceand the
5th African Nations Mountain Running Championship.
The Cross River Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development,
Patrick Ugbe, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of
Nigeria at Obudu, Cross River.
NAN reports that the main race, which is 13 km for men and 9.64 km for
women, is slated for November 23.
Mr. Ugbe said the more than 160 athletes would participate in seven
races in the championship.
He also said that participants were from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Uganda,
Eritrea, Kenya, South Africa, the UK, USA and Italy.
The commissioner said N45 million (about 280,000 dollars) in prize
money are expected to be won in the races.
He said the race would also feature the media and children categories.
Abebe Dinkesa of Ethiopia is the defending champion in the male
category, having won in 2012; while his compatriot, Etenesh Neda, won
in the female category.
