Benue Police arrest nine-man gang for cultism, alleged murder

The Benue State Police Command has arrested a nine-man gang for
alleged cult related offences and the heinous murder of a 22-year
old man (names withheld) in Kashio area of Makurdi.
Briefing newsmen yesterday at the Command Headquaters in Makurdi, the
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Deputy
Suprintendent Daniel Ezeala said the gang was part of the 25 persons
arrested during the Eid celebrations.
According to Ezeala, "during the Eid celebrations, the command
arrested 25 suspects across the state for various offences and crimes.
"Among this number, the Police acted on a tip off and arrested a gang
of nine for cult related offences and the alleged gruesome murder of a
22 years old man at Kanshio in the outskirt of Makurdi town."
"The Command also apprehended three persons at Lessel in Ushongo local
government area of the state for their alleged involvement in setting
some houses in the area ablaze.
In addition, Ezeala said, men of the command also impounded 17
motorbikes from those who broke the restriction on the use of
motorbike in and around the state adding that , "two persons were
arrested in that regard."
He stressed that all the arrested suspects would be made to face trial
in a competent court at the completion of investigations into the
various offenses and crimes.
According to him,"Outside these arrests, we had a peaceful Eid
celebration in Benue state, and I can assure you that we will not
relent in our dogged determination to ensure that Benue remains one of
the safest and most peaceful in the entire country," Ezeala added.
