Oyo PDP Slams Ajimobi Over Flyover Barricade Collapse

With the furore generated by the huge amount spent on the
constructionof the Mokola, Ibadan flyover by the Oyo State Government
yet to subside, the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) has criticised Governor Abiola Ajimobi over the collapse of the
iron barricadeplaced upon the bridge.
The party said the collapse of the barricade in less than two months
of its inauguration indicates that the project was substandard and
does notjustify the huge cost of N2.9 billion the state government
expended on it.
Following the collapse of the barricade early this week, the state
government had reportedly accused the opposition parties of being
responsible for the destruction and alleged that the truck that ran
into the barricade was part of the plan by the opposition which had
initially condemned the barricade.
In a statement signed by the party's Public Relations Officer, Mr.
Kehinde Salawu, Thursday, it sympathised with commuters who
experienced hard times during the barricade collapse.
The PDP described the allegation as unfounded, adding that there was
no way a substandard project like the one in the town, could naturally
survive the test of time.
"We sympathize with the thousands of people caught in the traffic
gridlock which greeted the collapse of Ajimobi's barricade on the
MokolaBridge.
"It is a huge shame that barely two months after the commissioning of
the N2.9 billion bridge, some parts of the bridge could begin to
collapse after small impacts. One wonders what would happen if the
motorist had hit the bridge itself," the party said.
