The Oyo State Police Command yesterday paraded a student of Ladoke
Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, for allegedly
kidnapping a two-year-old girl.
Addressing newsmen at Eleyele headquarters of thecommand, the state
Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Indabawa said the suspect was
arrested following a distress call and he was immediately trailed into
the bush, where he was apprehended. He said items recovered from the
suspect include, one jack knife, one face cap, one cable wire, a pair
of the victim's sandals and a LAUTECH identity card.
Speaking with newsmen, the suspect, Tosin (24), who claimed to
be studying Electrical-Electronics at the institution, confirmed that
he committed the crime with the intention of collecting N700,000
ransom.
Also recovered were improvised explosive devices and allied materials
found along Podo-Ijebu-Ode axis of the state.
The police boss explained that on August 11 at about3:15a.m, along
Podo-Ijebu-Ode, a police team intercepted a taxi with three occupants,
whom they told to stop but the driver sped off.
He stated that: "After a hot chase of the occupants of a Nissan Sunny
car painted in Ogun State commercial colour, the occupants escaped
into a nearby bush while the vehicle was abandoned."
He said after a check of the vehicle, police discovered cartons of
explosives powder, two cartons of solar detonating cords and 16
bundles of ten wires each of delay detonator wires.
"It was also discovered that the Nissan Sunny car with Ogun State
commercial colour had two registration numbers of Ogun-XC XFR AKM and
AL 831 LUY.
" A diligent investigation into the recovery revealed that the
explosives were stolen from Express Quarry at Toll-Gate on August 8,
this year and efforts are on to arrest the fleeing thieves," the
police commissioner said.
