The suspected kidnappers of the wife of the traditional ruler of
Nkwumeto autonomous community, Imo state,Eze Basil Nwokeke, has been
nabbed by the police.
In a statement by the state police public relations officer (PPRO),
Joy Elemoko, yesterday, the police command debunked rumours that the
kidnappers were still at large.
She disclosed that the suspected abductors of the woman were caught
while negotiating ransom with the family of the monarch.
According to the statement, three of the five suspects werearrested 48
hours after the incident, while one was killed during a shootout with
the police and the fifth suspect, whose name was given as Chizuru
Nwagbisi, escaped.
"Contrary to reports in some quarters that the suspected gunmen who
kidnapped the wife of His Royal Highness, Eze Basil Nwokeke, were yet
to be arrested, the Imo police command wants to state that within 48
hours of the incident, the principal suspects were traced totheir
hideouts and arrested," the statement read in part.
The fifth suspect, Nwagbisi popularly known as "Point one" who escaped
arrest has been warned to turn himselfin at the nearest police
station, while members of the public have been urged to volunteer
credible information that will lead to his arrest.
